The term NEMO refers to the Nominated Electricity Market Operator, a new player introduced by the Commission Regulation (EU) 2015/1222 of 24 July 2015 establishing a guideline on capacity allocation and congestion management (CACM), in the context of day-ahead and intraday coupling of electricity markets.

The activity of a NEMO as described by CACM can only be exercised by entities that have been designated as NEMO.

In this article we explain briefly what a NEMO is, what the tasks are of a NEMO in the context of market coupling of electricity markets, what the designation process is to which NEMOs are subject and which companies have been designated as NEMO.
