ACER REMIT QUATERLY: new communication tool of ACER on REMIT

Energy Markets - Market Manipulation - REMIT - ACER

ACER launched today the “REMIT Quarterly”.

With this tool ACER aims at providing further guidance to the relevant stakeholders on REMIT-related matters and issues as they arise.

REMIT refers to Regulation (EU) No 1227/2011  of the European Parliament and of the Council on wholesale energy market integrity and transparency adopted on 8 December 2011.

REMIT introduces a EU-wide framework that :

-defines market abuse, in the form of market manipulation, attempted market manipulation and insider trading, in wholesale energy markets;
-
prohibits prohibition of market manipulation, attempted market manipulation and insider trading in wholesale energy markets;
-
establishes a framework for the monitoring of wholesale energy markets to detect and deter market manipulation and insider trading; and
-
provides the enforcement of these prohibitions and the sanctioning of breaches.

ACER is responsible for collecting and analysing wholesale markets and other relevant data to identify possible instances of market abuse.

With the REMIT Quarterly ACER will provide up-to-date guidance on definitions, application of REMIT, present new common understandings of the Transaction Reporting Manual and on other transaction reporting issues.
